General Information
Figure 1: The Belize dollar
Even though this is the formal currency, many places in Belize will accept United States bills. Tourism is the country’s number one source of income, with their exports of sugar and bananas coming soon after. Their gross domestic product per capita is $8,300, meaning it is one of the poorest countries in the world; however, this does not change the fact Belize is one of the most beautiful and unique destinations to visit and explore (The World Factbook: Belize).

Figure 2: The flag of Belize is mainly blue with two thin red stripes on the top and bottom. The national coat of arms is in the middle of the flag and shows two workers standing under a mahagony tree, the first one holding an oar and the second one an ax. Under these workers is the phrase “Sub umbra floreo,” which meanss “in the shadow flourish” and refers to the colonial past of Belize (Flag of Belize).

Figure 3: Mural in the Sunbreeze Hotel Restaurant
This mural is a perfect example of the atmosphere of Belize and the people there. Everyone we met was extremely nice, always smiling, and seemed to be enjoying life one day at a time.
